About Us

Who We Are

Our Mission

To improve the quality of life for those affected by Parkinson’s disease through education, advocacy, and providing free medication and supportive services.

Our Vision

One of the most unmet needs in the field of Parkinson’s disease is lack of knowledge and proper information for people with Parkinson’s and their caregivers about this condition. Many patients come across information about Parkinson’s disease from unauthentic resources and their condition can worsen if they act upon such information.

It is our vision to provide up to date information and strategies, free medication, and supportive devices which can help improve the quality of life of people with Parkinson’s disease.

We believe that every individual with Parkinson’s disease should have access to medication, education and any other supportive services that will improve their quality of life regardless of where they are in the world or what their financial situation is.

Global Reach

Our Medication Chapters

At the World Parkinson’s Program, we provide Parkinson Medication globally through our medication chapters. Medication chapters include locations where we provide free assistive aid and medication to people with Parkinson’s disease, allowing us to ensure that people living with Parkinson’s have access to the support they need. Currently, we operate in 39 locations across 22 countries, with each chapter led by dedicated community volunteers, experienced neurologists, healthcare professionals, caregivers, or individuals living with Parkinson’s themselves

Founding Purpose

Our Founder

We are a Canadian non-profit charitable global organization founded in 2008 by world renowned Canadian neurologist, Dr. Abdul Qayyum Rana, who specializes in Parkinson’s disease and movement disorders. He is the author of a series of educational brochures about Parkinson’s disease which have been translated in more than 20 languages, and are used in more than 50 countries around the world. Dr. Rana has also authored several books on Parkinson’s disease and Neurological Disorders.

During his childhood, he noticed his grandmother had severe tremors and required constant care. It was only after her death and becoming a physician did he realize his grandmother had Parkinson’s disease. This had a profound impact on him and pushed him to be the individual who he is today.

Up until 2012, the focus of the World Parkinson’s Program was primarily education. In 2012, our scope expanded to include free medications, walkers, canes and other healthcare supplies for people with Parkinson’s who couldn’t afford them.

By 2017, the World Parkinson’s Program grew after gaining a registered charity status with the Canada Revenue Agency. Since then, our organization has continued to grow with our primary mandate being free medications as this is a key requirement to improve the quality of life of people with Parkinson’s.

Donate Today

Every dollar you donate can make a difference in someone’s life. Medication is inaccessible to many Parkinson’s disease patients in underprivileged areas. Your contribution enables us to provide individuals who might otherwise go without hope with life-altering treatments, dignity restoration, and hope. We at the World Parkinson’s Program think that no one should have to endure suffering just because they are unable to pay for medical care. Donating gives someone the opportunity to live a more comfortable life. Every contribution matters.

$40/month can provide a month’s supply of life changing medication for a person with Parkinson’s.
